Muscovado:
Alter Trade Mascobado is a non-centrifugal sugar made from boiled sugarcane juice. Its "premium quality" sets Alter Trade Mascobado apart from the other muscovado in the market. Mascobado sugar symbolizes the plight of marginalized sugarcane producers of Negros. It is the most widely known organic whole cane sugar in the Philippines. It is one of the major ingredients of Mascao, the finest Fair Trade Chocolate in Europe. The shift from conventional to organic sugarcane production and the eventual Organic Certification in 1995 allowed Alter Trade to expand the Mascobado markets in Europe, Asia and the US. Altertrade undergoes yearly inspection and certification by the Institute of Marketecology (IMO) and the Fairtrade Labelling Organization (FLO) according to international organic agriculture (Naturland, Bio Suisse, EU Reg. and USDA-NOP) and Fair Trade standards.
Coco sugar:
Organic Coconut Sap Sweetener is made from fresh coconut sap harvested from organically grown coconut trees. The freshly collected sap is continuously boiled for hours until the liquid content of the sap has evaporated and sugar granules are formed. Coconut sweetener is classified as a food with low glycemic index according to a study by Food and Nutrition Research Institute(2007).
